On 5th April, Nuno Correia, a Portuguese artist and researcher, will be presenting his recent work and discussing if interactive audiovisual digital projects are art works or tools.
Interactive Audiovisual Digital Projects: Art Works or Tools?
Nuno's presentation will be centred around the development of his latest project, AV Clash (www.avclash.com), as an example of an art work on the threshold of becoming a tool. He will also frame works such as Reactable and Tenori-on as being on the frontier between art work and tool.
In the presentation, Nuno will be asking the following question:
- What makes a digital project an art work or a tool?
And provide some tentative answers:
- Number of possible variations over the initial set of materials;
- Feeling of self-expression / creativity for users;
- Possibilities for re-distribution / re-deployment of final result;
- Appropriate (or lack of?) copyright framing.
Nuno Correia (Portugal, 1972) is an artist and researcher in the field of interaction for sound, sonic visualization and audiovisual creativity. He is a doctoral student and lecturer at Media Lab Helsinki.
